Heyuan Municipality was approved by the State Council to have been established as a district level municipality on Jan 7, 1988, and it administrates five counties and one district including Yuancheng District, Dongyuan, Longchuan, Zijin, Lianping and Heping County. There are 98 villages and towns, 4 street offices, 1394 village commissions and 149 community resident commissions.
